ACDS has grown in ways our founders could scarcely have imagined when they opened what became ACDS in 1966!
Here is a look at our year by the numbers:
Early Childhood
- Opened 6 new classes in Pelham for a total of 79 children served in a beautiful new site we are leasing from Our Lady of Perpetual Help
- Offered day care, early intervention, pre-school special education, and the best Halloween parade around to 250 children at our Plainview location
- Supported 35 children in our EI clinic who would not otherwise receive services including use of our specialized van for families who lack access to transportation
- Provided a dynamic and engaging educational experience for 168 children in our Scarsdale pre-school. We offered comprehensive evaluation services to 132 Westchester children, meeting a huge unmet need in the County
Adulthood
- Offered community outings, socialization and skill building activities for 150 young adults in two day hab locations, in Plainview and Merrick
- Grew our Fiscal Intermediary, Self-Direction and Brokerage services to a staggering 720 people: 500 served through Fiscal Intermediary and 220 served through Brokerage
- Provided a stimulating and supportive home environment to 54 residents in our 8 group homes
- Served up summer fun and countless memories to 88 campers in our respite adventure camp in Pennsylvania
Behind every number is a story. A person with a family who loves them, pushes them, wants them to succeed to the fullest of their potential. At the beginning of their journeys, these families might have been given concerning, even discouraging news. ACDS's mission is to bring hope and joy into the lives of each of those families. We will pour every single dollar raised through this appeal into helping our constituents bring their beautiful and unique gifts to their community.
